Custom Die-Cut Thermal Insulation

Do you need to reduce heat transfer in your applications? Not sure which materials are best for conduction, convection, and/or radiation? JBC Technologies can help. We have extensive experience sourcing, die cutting, and converting many thermal insulation materials with a varying mechanical and physical properties.

Ceramic Blanket

Flexible, lightweight, and able to perform in continuous temperatures up to 1200º C, low bio-persistent ceramic blankets such as Morgan Advanced Material’s Superwool® family, Nutec’s SuperMag-HI™, Unifrax’s Insulfrax®, are ideal for high-temperature thermal insulation applications. Additional benefits include exceptional thermal insulating performance, strong chemical resistance, low thermal conductivity, thermal shock resistance, binder-free, and low heat storage.

Thermal Ceramics offers a range of Fibers:

  • Low Biopersistent Fibers - Alkaline Earth Silicate (AES):
    • Superwool Plus classification temperature of 1200°C (2192°F)
    • Superwool HT classification temperature of 1300°C (2372°F)
  • Polycrystalline Wool Fibers

Ceramic Papers

Many of the same material partners that make ceramic blankets also offer a full line of Alumina Silica ceramic papers. These materials are thin, flexible, excellent for die cutting, and ideal for high temperature gasketing applications. Additional benefits include low thermal conductivity, high heat reflectance, and excellent corrosion resistance. Examples include Morgan Advanced Material’s  Superwool® Papers.

Foil

Although aluminum conducts more heat than some of the other options listed on this page, it is effective as a thermal insulator because it prevents the radiation of heat by reflecting it back to its source. It is especially effective when laminated to ManniGlas®, ceramic blanket, glass mat, or another other non-woven material, such is the case with JBC’s own TABshield composites.

ManniGlas®

JBC is a premier converter of Lydall ManniGlas®, a non-respirable glass fiber paper with superior thermal resistance. A cost-effective alternative to silicone or ceramic, ManniGlas is ideal for high temperature insulation up to 1200º F. It also has a strong compression resistance and low LOI, and there are multiple grades available to choose from depending depending on your performance requirements. Learn more.

Needled Mat

Available in a variety of thicknesses and densities, needled mats are ideal non-woven products for thermal insulation in appliances, boilers, air conditioners, automotive, and other applications that require insulation that can withstand high heat. They are soft, compressible, binder free, asbestos free, and incombustible.

There are multiple classifications of needled mat including, ECR Fiber, Basalt Fiber, S Glass, E-glass, HR-glass, and Silica Fiber. Valmiera, for example, offers needled mats made from three different glass types: E-glass 600°C, HR-glass 800°C and SiO2-glass 1000+° C.   Frenzelit, offers two lines: isoTHERM®, which has an application temperature limit of 750° C, and isoGLAS® which has an application temperature limit 550° C. Lewco has multiple options as well, including their E-glass fiber silica/ fiberglass composite blankets.

Synthetic Blanket

Lightweight, compressible and made of polyproplyne non-woven sound-absorbing fibers, synthetic blankets don’t just reduce noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH), they also provide excellent thermal insulation.

3M™ Thinsulate™ is a good choice for insulating car doors, headliners and more. Because it is flexible, conformable, and compressible, it is ideal for filling cavities of various thicknesses.

Other similar products include Aim Fiber’s AutoZorb® and Aim Fiber’s Polyzorb®.
