Do you need help deflecting or reflecting heat?

What are Die-Cut Heat Shields?

Engines and other machines generate a great deal of heat while they’re running and if not properly managed, this heat can make its way into all kinds of places it’s not wanted to cause a whole host of problems - Everything from overheated vehicle interiors to premature gasket and seal failure can be caused by exposure to excessive heat over extended periods of time. Enter the heat shield.

At its most basic, a heat shield is a custom-cut component made from flexible materials that redirects or contains heat energy. Heat shields can take many forms, from a blanket of non-woven fiberglass insulation to a complete, engineered multi-layered composite like JBC’s TABshield thermal and acoustical patch

Explore the many heat shield materials JBC Converts:

Insulated aluminum with or without adhesive backing

An ideal solution for a variety of targeted noise and heat suppression applications, JBC’s TABshield patch series reduces NVH, while fixing vehicle hot spots.

The combination of the heat-reflecting qualities of aluminum and the thermal properties of the insulation core provides superior thermal and acoustical performance.

Hot melt adhesive-coated aluminum Plain, Embossed, or Micro-perforated

Lightweight aluminum radiates the heat back toward its source. Hot melt adhesive makes it easy to bond during the thermo-forming process.

Choose from multiple thicknesses of aluminum or stainless steel in plain, embossed, embossed and micro-perforated or micro-perforated options.

Micro-perforated aluminum with or without adhesive backing

JBC’s micro-perforated aluminum (TABshield) offers all the heat reflecting benefits of our plain aluminum with the additional acoustical benefits provided by our micro-perforating technology.

Order in sheets, rolls, or die cut to your specific requirements with or without adhesive backing.

Embossed aluminum & stainless steel With or without adhesive backing

Embossed aluminum or stainless steel allows for better formability during molding and facilitates the use of lighter gauge materials.

Heat reflective tape in sheets, rolls or cut to your specific widths

Lightweight and extremely flexible, JBC’s TABshield tape series provides reflective thermal protection for hoses, wiring harnesses, cables, tubing, plastic parts, plastic fuel tanks, fuel lines, and other engine components.

Non-metallic heat shield and acoustical material options with or without adhesive backing

In addition to metallic and composite heat shield constructions, JBC offers heat shield and acoustical material options. Choose from: Superwool® ceramic papers and blankets, ManniGlas® fiberglass paper and needled glass mats, Autozorb® acoustical blanket, and other high quality material options. Got Questions? Answers to Heat Shield FAQs

At their core, heat shields are most effective at reflecting radiant heat. The main function of heat shields is to block heat before it reaches a certain area.

On their own, heat shields don't do much to reduce conductive or convective heat transfer. However, pairing a heat-shield material with a complementary insulation layer can help mitigate conductive or convective heat transfer. A skilled converter like JBC can laminate thermal insulation materials to heat shields to create a multi-layered solution that targets all types of heat transfer.

Yes, heat shields and TIMs serve distinct purposes in thermal management systems. Here's the breakdown:

Heat shields deflect and block radiant heat from reaching specific areas.

TIMs strategically allow heat to transfer between surfaces, improving heat dissipation.

Essentially, heat shields block unwanted heat while TIMs transfer heat efficiently.

JBC sources, foils, thermal tapes, and other heat shield materials from a wide range of industry-leading material suppliers. We take a vendor-agnostic sourcing approach, meaning we work with any material suppliers to help you source the material that best fits your budget and performance needs.

When placed between a heat source and a sensitive area, heat shields reduce the direct thermal energy that is exposed to the area, preventing overheating, material degradation, and performance loss caused by unwanted hot spots

Custom die-cut heat shields can be optimized for easier handling and integration into your specific assemblies. Die-cut shapes allow for tight custom fits into irregularly shaped areas and tight compartments. A skilled converter can also work with you to implement helpful part presentation considerations that improve your handling and supply chain efficiency, like pull-tabs, extended liners, and more!

On their own, not typically. But specialized multi-layered heat shield components, like JBC's TABshield thermal and acoustic barrier, can!

JBC can marry acoustic damping materials to a heat shield component via in-house laminating capabilities to create a component that solves two challenges in the footprint of one!

Not typically. We provide custom die-cutting services, but do not supply raw materials on their own.

One notable exception is our TABshield material. This is a custom material combination engineered by JBC and is available in both roll and sheet form.
